What makes a wood good for CNC routing
Three things decide it: grain (fine and even holds detail; open or wild grain chips), density (medium-hard cuts clean and durable; too soft fuzzes, too hard burns and wears bits), and stability (kiln-dried, flat stock that will not cup mid-cut). Consistency across the board matters more than raw hardness.

Why beech is our default for relief
Beech hits the sweet spot: fine, even grain, a Janka hardness around 1,300 lbf, and an affordable, consistent supply across Europe. Bit and feed basics
Even the best wood needs the right approach: use sharp bits (a tapered ball-nose down to 1–3 mm for fine 3D detail), take light finishing passes, and let the machine clear chips so it does not burn. Software like Vectric Aspire, VCarve, ArtCAM, Fusion 360 or Carveco all drive these cuts well.
